Fashion 101: The Cosmetics You Use Everyday

Posted by on May 21, 2013 in Blog | Comments Off

CaptureEvery woman out there wear makeup whenever they go out, whenever they’ll attend a certain event, or when they just go out.

In most countries, makeup is very important that every girl do not go out without putting makeup on. Girls in countries like Japan usually do their make up very nicely and they usually put more focus on their eyes.

Cosmetics like blush on, eye shadow, mascara, and eye liner are usually what most girls use to enhance the look of their eyes. They say that the eyes are the windows to one’s soul, and more often people are usually drawn to girls with, shall we say, a “lovely” stare.

Girls usually experiment with colors and such in order to know what is it that will suit the look in their eyes. Some would always say to go for color harmony, something that will look good and will go along the color of your dress, or the color of your skin. Still, it will all depend on how you see yourself with the shade of your makeup.

In fashion and style, cosmetics are always used to enhance the appearance of the body, or technically the face. They are typically mixtures of chemical compounds both derived from natural sources and synthetic sources.

Cosmetics are more popularly known as makeup and they are used by applying them to the skin, either on the face, eyes, lips, and body.

Types of Cosmetics

CaptureCosmetics are generally grouped or categorized in different types, depending on how they are used and their applications. They can be skin-care creams, lotions, powders, perfumes, lipsticks, finger and toe nail polish, eye and facial makeup, towelettes, permanent waves, colored contact lenses, hair colors, hair sprays and gels, deodorants, hand sanitizers, baby products, bath oils, bubble baths, and many others.

However, usually when talking about cosmetics, people would always picture make-ups, which includes eye and facial makeup, or coloring products that would enhance the person’s appearance.

Make-ups are usually classified as:

Primer. They usually come in various formulas that will suit the kind of skin and the skin condition of the user. Primers are used to reduce the appearance of pore size, prolong the lifespan of the makeup, and allow a smoother application of makeup. They are applied before the foundation.

Lipgloss. A sheer liquid from lipstick that will give your lips a moist appearance.

Lipstick, lip liner, lip balm. These are lip products that are water or gel based, and may contain alcohol to help it stay on the lips. The idea of this kind of product is to temporary saturate the lips with dye. It usually comes with an applicator brush or can be applied using the finger.

Concealer. This is used to cover the imperfections on the skin such as scar or blemishes. They are thicker and more solid than foundation.

Foundation. The foundation is used to make cover uneven skin coloration. It is usually in a form of liquid, cream, or powder, as well as light and fluffy mousse.

Face powder. The face powder is used to set the foundation and to give it a matte finish. It can also be used to conceal small flaws and blemishes.

Rouge, blush or blusher. These are cheek coloring cosmetics used to give or bring out the color of your cheeks and to make your cheekbones appear more defined. They are usually in a form of cream, powder or liquid. People with high cheekbones should be careful when putting these on so that it won’t be look like it’s “too much” on your face.

Contour powder or creams. These are used to define the face, nose and nose bridge. They can give the illusion of a slimmer or a different shaped face. These are usually a few shades darker than your skin tone and in a matte finish.

Highlight cosmetics. These are used to highlight the assets on your face. They can also add glow to the look on your face. These are usually in liquid, cream or powder forms. They can contain shimmer. Most Japanese girls and people who do costume plays apply highlight cosmetics with shimmer, and eye makeup to make their look more attractive, and close to that of anime, or Japanese cartoons.

CaptureMascara. These are used to darken, to lengthen, or to thicken your eyelashes. They usually come in different colors, but the most popular shade is black. Mascara can be waterproof for those people who are prone to sudden tears and allergies. They are also commonly paired with a lash curler or a mascara primer.

Bronzer. This type of makeup or cosmetic is used to give your skin a bit of a golden or bronze glow. They come in matte, semi matte or satin, and shimmer finishes.

Eyelash glue. This is used to adhere or to put false eyelashes to the eyes. False eyelashes are usually used by people with short eyelashes, and sometimes they are also used in costumes, fashion shows, or maybe even in your usual night time hangout. Eyelash glue comes in either clear or colored formulas, depending on what you like to use.

Eyebrow pencils. They are used to define or shape the eyebrows. They come in different colors such as black or brown, and different forms like cream, wax, gels, and powders.

Eye liner. Eye liners are used to define the shape of your eyes. They are usually applied after you put on eye shadow. They also come in different colors such as black, purple, or brown and can either be in liquid form. However, it actually takes a little longer to apply the liquid type as you need time for it to dry. But they usually also stay longer compared to the usually form.

Thus, it is safe to say that there are different types and forms of cosmetics. In countries like the US, they have the Food and Drug Administration, which regulates cosmetics and sets standards for the safe cosmetics as they are usually applied on the skin. Indeed, looking good is one of the best ways for you to present yourself to others, as a matter of fact, it can also boost a person’s self confidence, but be careful and choose your cosmetics wisely so that you won’t have skin problems in the future.

Good self-esteem is one of the most basic needs of people because it is how we see ourselves and how we perceive our personal worth. It is a human condition that shows our perception, and outlook in life.

There are several ways on how to improve or enhance your self-esteem. The impact of self-esteem in beauty and individuality has been correlated. Thus, researchers have been studying the psychological aspects of cosmetic surgeries like breast augmentation and self-confidence.

The psychological effects of breast augmentation, although not extensively researched, have been seen in women who have undergone the procedures:

According to a researcher at the University of Florida, breast implants have commonly improved the confidence and changed the outlook of how women see themselves. The procedure allowed women to dress themselves better and have a more confident image to the people they meet or encounter. In some ways, the procedure allowed women to re-package themselves into the emotionally secure individual that they wanted to be.

According to the America Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast augmentation is the top cosmetic surgery performed with a total of 347,524 women who had surgery in the year 2007.
