Is your fragrance in the Top 10?
Mar. 27--Until recently, most writing about perfume was in the form of advertising copy: highly subjective, intentionally vague and about as flowery as a flacon-covered fragrance counter.

Spice Up Your Life Using Scents and Fragrances
If your life is in need of a pick-me-up consider spicing it up with some scents! Perfume is defined as “a mixture of fragrant essential oils and aroma compounds, fixatives, and solvents used to give the human body, objects, and living spaces a lasting and pleasant scent.” It is the amount and type of solvent that is combined with the fragrant oil that determines what form it will take, be it a perfume, a cologne, eau de parfum or eau de toilette. A perfume (parfum in French) is the priciest of all of them on account of it’s being the most concentrated. Cologne (or eau de cologne in French) is the weakest of them all and is approximately half as concentrated, as is perfume. Eau de parfum is not as expensive as perfume because it consists of less parfum oils. Finally eau de toilette is a lighter version of perfume and is approximately a quarter as concentrated as straight perfume.
How to Making Your Scent Last All Day
Perfume has been described as being the “ultimate sensory experience, calling up emotions and forgotten memories.” If there were lessons in fragrance then fragrance 101 would be learning the secrets to making your scents last all day.
Understanding Pheromones in Fragrances
Pheromones are defined as “a naturally occurring chemical compound found in all insects, animals and humans.” There are different types of pheromones including alarm pheromones, sex pheromones, food trail pheromones and a host of others. When secreted from the body pheromones have a hand in attracting the opposite sex as well as in dictating to an extent, sexual behavior. It is sex pheromones that are most often discussed.
Perfumes and Fragrances are Categorized into Notes
Did you know that there is music occurring in your nose? Well, there is, only instead of music you hear with your ears, it is music for your olfactory senses. You’re probably wondering what the heck all this means. Well, in the world of perfume and fragrance manufacturing, the varying scents that make up a fragrance or perfume are categorized into different categories called “notes.” In music, notes are varying levels of tones; and in the perfume world, notes are varying degrees of smells.
Linen Fragrances for Your Pillows and Sheets
Aromatherapy is a big business these days. Different smells invoke different memories and emotions in people. It stands to reason that manufacturers would jump on this scented band wagon and take advantage of the popularity of smells. And one of the most popular rides on this scented bandwagon is the market for home fragrances, specifically linen and laundry fragrances.
Why Do Some Fragrances Smell Bad on You But Not Someone Else?
Choosing a fragrance is almost like a chemistry experiment. You have a hypothesis: A fragrance smells great in the bottle, but will it smell equally as good once it reacts to your skin chemistry? The results could be inconclusive unless you do a lot of experimenting of new perfumes and fragrances. You see, it takes time for a fragrance to really interact with your skin. First impressions of a fragrance don’t really count when choosing your perfume. It’s those lasting impressions, or base notes in fragrance terms, that you are aiming for.
Can Fragrances Be For Both Men and Women?
Fragrances are a multi-billion dollar industry. People love perfumes. They like scents in everything they use. In our society, we use perfumes in almost every product we make. Perfumes are in our soap and our cleaning products. We use perfumes to freshen our air, our bodies, and our pets. We cannot escape these scents in our society. People have used perfumes for thousands of years for a number of different reasons. In recent years, perfumes have become less expensive. As a result, more and more people are able to purchase them in a variety of products. Different fragrances, though, smell different on individuals, no matter what product the fragrance appears in. Fragrances are marketed to both men and women, but sometimes fragrances can be for both men and women.

How The Media Influences the Fragrance Market
How did you acquire your current fragrance? Did you just happen to wander around the fragrance counter of a department store or did you receive some perfume as a gift? Chances are good that you probably saw an ad somewhere for your fragrance. And there is also a good probability that because of that ad you saw, you remembered it enough to check it out the next time you were at the mall. See how the media works? Thanks to some advertising via various forms of media, you remembered the perfume, checked it out, and purchased it. Sure, you might have stumbled onto it on your own or someone could have recommended it by word of mouth. It was the ad, however, that reeled you in.
Fragrances Are In Many of Today's Products
Fragrances are all around. If you take the time to examine the environment around you, you may well notice that they are, in fact, a part of most everything you do. The world has gone fragrance mad, and there is no sign of slowing down. Where are fragrances showing up now? It is hard to know exactly where to begin, but consider some of the more popular places that we don’t always acknowledge.
Fragrances for Men: Different from Women's?
When you look at cologne and perfume in a store, the men’s and women’s fragrances are always separate. With few exceptions, there is always a difference between the fragrances designed for men and the ones designed for women, and the difference is not just the look of the bottle. If you smell them, you will notice that there is a distinct difference between the smell of women’s fragrances and the smell of men’s fragrances. Have you ever wondered why they are so different? There are actually some real reasons.
Fragrance Families: How They Are Categorized
Ever wonder how fragrances are categorized? Traditionally all fragrances are a part of a specific family or group. Although their names vary somewhat, there are basically six categories or olfactive families of perfume. They are floral or sweet, sporty or clean, green or natural, musk/oils, chypre/woody and finally, oriental/spicy. Some people like to find one fragrance and stick with it while others enjoy changing fragrances according to the occasion, their mood, even the season of the year. As well, age has an effect on fragrance choice. As a female grows from a girl to a woman, often her fragrance matures right along with her.
Fragrances: Floral Facts
There’s a popular saying that goes, “Stop and smell the flowers.” It usually means that you need to slow down a bit in your life and take time for simple pleasures … like smelling those proverbial flowers. Isn’t that the first thing you do when someone hands a bouquet to you or you are walking through a flower garden? It’s instinctive, something that we just do unconsciously. When buying flowers for yourself, many times the smell is what draws you to a purchase. That smell is what perfume manufacturers use to lure you to try and wear certain fragrances. In fact, flowers are an integral part in creating a fragrance.
How To Apply Your Favorite Fragrance
The appealing fragrance of a perfume has been described as being “like gathering an armful of luscious rose petals at the height of their bloom.” Fragrances today last longer on the skin than ever before. To use an example, Revlon’s “Lasting” is truly that- it has lasting power for up to ten hours. There are some easy tips to applying your favorite fragrance that everyone should be privy to.
Fragrance Products: A Brief History
Fragrance products have been around almost since the beginning of civilization itself. Certain scents are the key to unlocking many of the world's memories. Perhaps that accounts for their popularity. The fragrance industry did more than ten billion dollars in sales last year alone. We are not the only culture to be fragrance obsessed, though. The word “perfume” comes from the Latin “per fume” which translates to “through smoke.” This makes perfect sense in light of the fact that the earliest fragrance products known to man were the burning of incense or aromatic herbs during religious gatherings or for religious purposes.
A His and Hers Guide to Wearing Your Favorite Scent
Have you ever cringed when the elevator door closed, wondering if you could breathe that guy's cologne all the way to the 35th floor without getting a contact high? Or what about that older relation (in fact, you suspect she might not even be a relation at all) who corners you at Thanksgiving with a hug that leaves you smelling of an antique perfume so potent that you swear you can still smell it on New Year’s Eve?
There is an art to wearing fragrance that sadly too few of our friends, family and coworkers seem to acknowledge. We of course would never make the mistake of wearing too much or of having too many conflicting fragrances announce our arrival…
How To Choose Women Perfume - Fragrance Families
Buying women's perfume can be confusing when there are so many different options out there. If you are overwhelmed by the available choices, a good way to pick womens perfume is to select a fragrance family that matches your personality.
Most women's perfumes fit into one of six fragrance families: fresh, fruity, floral, foody, oriental, or woody (also known as chypre). There are also subcategories within each of the main categories, but the differences among them are slight, so beginners shouldn't concern themselves with them.
Fragrance-Free Makeup
Many makeup`s today are sold in drugstores or online that are “fragrance-free.” Fragrance Free means, simply, no chemicals were added to the face powders, foundations, mattes, lipsticks, blushes and creams, eye shadow, mascara and other products to sometimes decrease the product volume, thus inflating the price. Some women are multi-chemical sensitive, and this could be especially hard on women who’ve just had a baby or are expecting one.
