The Newest Look in Summer Hair: The ScarfLet’s face it; even those of us who love our hair every other season of the year, will have a battle of the tresses when the hot weather hits. Curly hair gets frizzy and straight hair gets limp – it’s enough to keep us divas indoors when the temperature rises! This is, without a doubt, the reason that hair accessories come to the forefront during the summer season. And one of the accessories that you simply cannot live without this year is the classic scarf.

Surely you have noticed these silky garments fluttering in all of the department stores this season. In all types of widths, colors and prints, so you know you will find at least a couple that will look great on you. Not only does a scarf give you a dash of color and pattern from the top down, but a scarf will also keep hair off of your face on a hot day, and revive your locks when the sun causes them to droop. Those of us who are in the thick of growing out the bangs will find scarves to be invaluable during the awkward phase that seems to last forever. It even allows you to get away with skipping a wash here and there because you are too busy having fun in the sun.

How to Wear the Scarf

There are lots of fun ways to wear a scarf this summer. Fold yours into a wide band and wrap around your hair. Tie it at the back of your head under your locks, or slightly to the side for a look that says flirty. This style will work best on hair that is blown sleek and straight, or sports a few loose waves for some extra body. Position the front of the scarf right at the hairline or back just slightly for a softer look.

Another fun look for the scarf this year is to tie it around your head like a tight-fitting cap. Fold your scarf into a triangle shape and wrap around your head with the point in back. Tie at the back of your head and tuck the ends inside for a smooth look. Give the ends of your hair a slight curl, pop on a pair of funky shades, and you are ready to hit the streets in style! To soften the look, allow a little bang to peek out under the edge.

You can find scarves in every fabric and color this year, from the classy silk that works well with your evening wardrobe, to basic solid colors that will get you through your days in style. There are even a few funky choices that spell F-U-N anytime. You can also find headbands that are designed to look like scarves but are easier to put on since you can avoid the step of tying the ends together just right. With so many choices available, you will want one of these accessories to coordinate with every outfit in your closet!
