It can be difficult to know what types of products and techniques to use for maintaining the health and style of children`s hair. Knowing what products to use and how to approach kids about their hair can make the job of being a professional child hairdresser much easier for parents.
Listen to What They Want Kids these days are flooded with media images of other kids who are decked out like their adult counterparts with hair products, dyes and styles to look cool. Listen to your child about what kind of hair style they want, and even if it is outside of the boundaries of what you find appropriate, try to find a happy medium. Encourage the child who wants to take a more active participation in their hair.
Teach Kids Healthy Hair Habits Children learn by example, and if they see their mom or dad using lots of hair styling products and tools they will want to do the same. Try to keep your hair routine to a minimum around the children to avoid conflict, but show them that you do regular maintenance like washing and brushing your hair just like they have to. Purchase kids their own hair care tools like combs and brushes, and help them practice using them. Consider Using Shea Butter for Hair Conditioning Shea butter is a good choice for child hair care because it is mild and works as sunscreen as well. Products with shea butter are good for curly hair and hair that is dry and needs extra conditioning to be manageable. Apply shea butter to the hair after a bath and brush through the hair thoroughly for an even coating. Style as usual.
Comb Hair with a Wide Toothed Comb after Bath-time The best time to get rid of tangles is when the hair is still wet after it has been washed. For curly hair or hair that tends to tangle easily, use a gentle mist of leave in conditioner before combing.
Have Them Sleep in Braids for a Pretty Ponytail If your little girl likes to wear her hair in ponytails or down for school but doesn`t enjoy the brushing routine of her matted hair in the morning, trying brushing her hair and putting it in a braid or two before she goes to sleep. In the morning, her hair will have a nice natural wave that can be easily brushed or combed out in a few minutes, and it will not have gotten tangled during her sleep at night.
Condition Curly Hair Frequently Curly hair is hard to manage on an adult, and even harder to manage on a child who plays rough all day long. A conditioning routine is especially important for kids with long hair to keep the hair from breaking when mom or dad helps with brushing or combing it out. If you don`t want to both with the hassle of two rinses in the tub, purchase a light shampoo and conditioner combo, and make sure to wash their hair at least 2-3 times a week to make sure tangles don`t turn into knots that need to be ripped out.
