Facial Hair – A MenaceFacial hairs are hairs that are found on the face of an individual. Facial hair is a trait that distinguishes males and females. Facial hairs are generally found in males and they develop it during puberty. Women may also have facial hair but it is generally less than men.

Males generally style their facial hair into sideburns, goatees, moustaches and beards. Women generally have very less hair on their face; however some women may have considerable facial hair. Excessive hairiness is termed as hirsutism. This condition is a sign of hormonal variation.

Facial hairs in women first appear during puberty and then grow rapidly from the age of above thirty five. The areas in which women experience unwanted hair include the chin and lips. Some women may have hair on their neck and jaw cheeks as well. Over a period of time the facial hair becomes coarser and darker. Unwanted facial hair affects women of all races, ethnic backgrounds and ages. However before determining the method of hair removal, the cause of hair removal should be determined.

Various ways to remove unwanted facial hair are:

Shaving

This is the easiest and cheapest method to remove hair. In shaving the hair grow back faster and appear thicker than before. This method of hair removal is not recommended for females.

Bleaching

It makes the dark hair less apparent. At times it makes the hair look like fur on the face generally in the sun.

Depilatory creams

It is a messy way to remove hair. Another problem with this method is the chances of the skin reacting to the chemicals and the skin may develop pimples.

Plucking

Plucking is a painful method of hair removal. It gives the site of hair removal a very clean look. Here it should be kept in mind that prolonged plucking can damage the skin.

Waxing

It is harsh way of hair removal but it offers the site of hair removal a very clean look. Also the results of waxing are long lasting.

Electrolysis

Patience is required for this method of hair removal. Permanent hair removal can be achieved if the process is done over a period of 1 to 2 years.

Laser hair removal

It is a costly method of hair removal. It produces permanent results in six to eight sessions.

Vaniqa

It is used along other hair removal methods as it inhibits the growth of hair and ensures that the results last longer, though it is an expensive method, it is worth it.
