Samples of this cream were enjoyed by everyone who attended my Girlfriend Party in 1998. One of our speakers, Rachael Shapiro of A Woman of Uncommon Scents, brought samples of some of the worlds most exquisite essential oils so everyone could scent their take-home cream exactly how they wanted. We had fun using oils such as melissa (lemon balm), rose, neroli and others. This recipe is gently scented by the addition of neroli wax and rose hydrosol.
Yield: Approx. 4 ounces
Prep Time: 30 minutes Price Category: 3 Difficulty Level: 3 Shelf Life: 1-2 weeks, keep refrigeratedIngredients: 18 grams olive oil 16 grams shea butter 2 grams neroli wax (optional, or substitute rose wax) 2 grams stearic acid 10 grams emulsifying wax 40 grams distilled water 20 grams rose hydrosol 1 tespoon borax 1/8 teaspoon xanthan gum Blending Procedure: - Combine the olive oil, shea butter, neroli wax (you can completely omit the neroli wax if you do not have any), stearic acid and emulsifying wax (the first 5 listed ingredients) in a heat proof (I use Pyrex) 16 oz. glass measuring cup. Place the mixture in a hot water bath until the waxes are completely melted. Remove from heat.
- In a separate Pyrex cup, combine the hydrosol and water and place them into a hot water bath for about 10 minutes to warm them and dissolve the borax. (The borax will not dissolve completely until you stir it in; see Step 4.) Remove from heat.
- Stir the oils/waxes together to make sure they are evenly.
- In the separate container, stir the water ingredients to make sure they are evenly combined.
- Begin stirring the oil/wax mixture with an electric mixer and add the water mixture as you stir. You will see the mixture begin to thicken as you blend it. Continue mixing until until Girlfriend Party Body Cream is thick and rich. This should take about 5-10 minutes. Pour into clean jars.
- Store in the fridge between uses if you'd like to extend freshness, or you can use the preservative of your choice.
