Skincare Ingredients Men Should Stay Away FromMale skin may be tough but if you aren’t using the right skincare products with the appropriate ingredients, you could be causing more harm than you think. Get a skincare clue and read on to find out what ingredients you may want to shy away from the next time you’re shopping in the skincare aisle or online.

Whether you’re a guy, who knows his skincare, depends on your significant other to guide you, or if you are a complete newbie to it all, it helps to be as informed as possible when it comes to buying skincare products for your skin. While marketing tactics and fancy, well place ads help influence many consumer choices, don’t fall prey to the gimmicks. By knowing what ingredients to avoid and which ones to embrace, you’ll quickly be able to recognize the products that will benefit your skin and which ones are just all hype.

Don’t falsely assume that paying big bucks for a fancy skincare product means that it is entirely good for your skin. You should still make it a habit to read the labels so you know exactly what is contained inside that splendidly crafted jar or bottle.

When looking for the right items to keep your complexion healthy and happy, stay away from all bar soap. These squeaky clean bars are formed by the combination of alkaline salts and waxy binders, which only serve to strip your skin of its natural moisture, clog your pores, and leave your complexion looking dull and drab. Instead, opt for a liquid cleanser for your skin type that doesn’t contain any soap additives.

In need of a good moisturizer? Then look for one that is either oil-free or lightly formulated. Avoid any moisturizers that contain fatty acids and/or vegetable oils. These types of fats and oils are commonly used as moisturizers but don’t quite do the job right. Instead of properly moisturizing the skin and keeping it clean, fatty acids and vegetable oil-based moisturizers actually clog the pores and leave a slimy thin film on top of the skin, which blocks any air from getting through, resulting in breakouts and a lot of bacteria being trapped in your pores.

Even though alcohol may make a fine beverage at a BBQ or on your day off, it has no place in your skincare products. At all costs avoid purchasing or using any skincare item that contains alcohol as an ingredient. Unfortunately, there are still a number of products on the market that use alcohol but do your homework and read the labels. Using skincare products with alcohol in the formula can leave your skin dehydrated and this harsh chemical can even kill and destroy your healthy skin cells while altering the biological balance and makeup of your complexion.

Fragrance is another factor to look for in your manly skincare products. No man wants to smell girly but at the same time, don’t be so quick to buy a super manly scented product either. Using products with excessive fragrances or coloring may contain additives that don’t do anything to help your skin. Some fragrances and dyes can actually cause an allergic skin reaction so be wary of the over-the-top aromas that pass you by.

Even though some products have ingredients listed as “botanicals,” that doesn’t always mean you’re entirely safe. Not all natural ingredients are good for you, believe it or not. Depending on your skin type, avoid plant extracts like menthol, citrus oils and peppermint, which may not agree with your skin and can cause allergic reactions.
