Skincare Tips for Blue Collar WorkersWorking from sunup to sundown to earn a paycheck is admirable. Blue collar workers do many jobs that many of us wouldn’t be able to handle on a daily basis. Construction workers, mechanics and other physically involved occupations come with its own territory… grime, dirt and dust are some of the forgotten factors that also come with the job.

Who says you have to look like a blue collar worker when you’re off the clock? Many of us can tell if a man works with his hands by looking at them: dirt embedded in the fingernails, scars, sunburns and other signs of skin damage are usually present on a man no matter how hard he scrubs and washes. But by paying more attention to daily skin care, any man can leave the physical griminess at the job site.

Because most blue collar workers use their hands on a daily basis, they often suffer from burns and cuts, not to mention getting grease, oil, and dirt all over them. The elements that construction workers and even mechanics expose their skin to can lead to dry, cracked skin and even contact dermatitis. In order to keep skin looking and feeling healthy, try to wear gloves whenever possible instead of using your bare hands. Keep a tube of hand cream available and apply it as needed. Better yet, purchasing a bottle of shielding lotion will help repair the skin’s protective barrier and lock-in moisture and hydration that last for hours.

For those who work outdoors, sun care is a must. Nothing will make the skin age faster than being exposed to the elements all day. There are many quality sunscreens and sun blocks that can be purchased at affordable prices. Always carry it with you and remember that reapplication every two hours is the best way to stay protected. Apply sunscreen to any part of your body that is exposed, especially the face. For those hot work days, try a cooling mist that contains SPF. This type of product cools on contact, while protecting your skin from sun damage. It’s a great way to refresh yourself without the hassle of lathering on traditional sunscreen.

The wear and tear that can result from a blue collar job can show up on your skin. To avoid rough and thick textured skin, use skin care products such as lanolin creams and lotions. These are excellent at softening the skin and keeping it supple and hydrated. Investing in quality men’s skincare products will also keep your complexion in shape. Your face will greatly benefit from a good cleanser, toner and moisturizer.

To avoid tough grease spots, oil and dirt from accumulating underneath your fingernails and staining your skin, don’t spend hours scrubbing with soap and water. Constant scrubbing only serves to irritate the skin, making it red and raw. Instead, try a homemade recipe using natural ingredients that exfoliate the skin on your hands, eliminating hard to remove spots and stains. Soaking your hands for a few minutes prior to exfoliating can help soften the skin, making it easier to clean.
