Normally the closest thing men get to skin care is soap, shaving materials and whatever their wife/girlfriend gets them for the holidays. But this doesn’t mean your man is getting the best out of a skin care routine. Instead of nagging him and forcing him to listen to why practicing good skin care is so important, try a different approach that is more appealing to him.
It’s a known fact that the more you harp on a man about something, the less he’ll care about the topic. This can cause him to avoid the situation altogether. Skin care isn’t something that most men care to spend a lot of time thinking about. If you’ve never had any success with getting your husband or boyfriend to take you seriously when it comes to educating him about his skin, don’t get too upset. The most common problem is in the approach. As women, even we make mistakes when it comes to our men. Ever spent a ton of money on a bunch of skin care products for your man’s birthday or Christmas, only to have it sit on the bathroom sink forever? A good way of handling this type of situation is to think about it from his point of view. A huge gift basket or box with fancy labels can be frightening to any man. If it’s got a bow on it, he’ll deem it as “girly” and put it as far away from him as possible. When shopping for skin care products, don’t go overboard on the size and appearance. Many men like things simple and their skin care is no exception. Stick to small items - travel size men’s skin care products are perfect if your boyfriend or husband is always on the go or has a job that involves a lot of traveling. Buying his skin care products with a purpose will allow him to use the items as he pleases on his time, not yours.
There are a number of men’s products on the market today that come in manly colors and packaging. One way to scare your boyfriend or husband away from skin care is by giving him a package wrapped in pinks and reds with flowers. Don’t buy skin care items that you would find appealing… chances are if you like it, he won’t.
Another thing to keep in mind when it comes to your man and his skin care is practicality. Women are used to a beauty arsenal of multiple products that go beyond cleansing, toning and moisturizing. But for men, it’s all about what can be done in the shortest amount of time. If you’re looking for the right skin care products to get your man interested, make it appealing by giving him less. There are plenty of men’s products that are 3-in-1 or 2-in-1. If it’s an item he can use while in the shower, even better. Anything that can save a man a little time in his schedule is always worth his attention.
If all else fails, ask your man what type of skin care products he likes or needs. Keeping the guesswork out of the picture will save you time, money, frustration, and gift receipts. If he’s up to it, suggest going along with him the next time he heads to the store to buy skin care products. Learn which brands he favors and take note of his daily routine and buy products accordingly.
