In a world obsessed with hour glass figures and frowning weighing scales, finding clothes in larger sizes can be difficult. This is perhaps why most plus size women relegate themselves to body concealing salwar kameezes or the eternal long black dress for an evening out. Black was usually the safest option, and rightly so, as it is a slimming colour. It does not reflect light and therefore hides the girth effectively.
Dispel the myth Then, labels like Revolution, MO and All were born, and began to cater to this large segment of buyers . There are various myths that surround the large woman. One is that shapeless, loose kaftan-like silhouettes are best. This is absolutely untrue. Hiding your body in a sack like garment makes you look frumpy. The trick is to accept your body’s dimensions. Skinny jeans and racer backs are definitely out. But jeans with a smart shirt dress that ends just above the knee is cool. Mix it up Shirt dresses can also be teamed with slacks, salwars, churidars and tapered skirts. Keep one piece of your ensemble snug and the other slightly loose. This maintains a balance and lends a sleeker look. Another myth is that is bigger women are big all over. This is not always the case. Some have slim ankles, others have a chiseled face. There are always non-fat parts of the body that should be highlighted. If you have nice ankles then choose skirts that end just above the ankles to show off a pretty anklet. You can wear a nice necklace to draw attention to your face. Prints and patterns Animal and foliage prints are the rage now and lend themselves beautifully to long tunics or blouses that skim your waist and end just below the hips. Geometric patterns and paisleys are great to camouflage love handles. Harem pants are also very much in fashion right now. They are a perfect way to stay in vogue and not wince every time you sit. Sleeveless clothing is not necessarily out for plus size women if they have shapely arms. Accessorise Try kimono or balloon sleeves. They are ultra-feminine. Roll-up sleeves with buttons are also an option. Bracelets and cocktail rings on well-manicured fingers look great.
