How Men can Deal with Thinning HairYou know the drill. Your morning combing and styling routine begins to result in more and more strands of hair in the sink. Before you know it, your hair has become thin in some areas, or perhaps your scalp is already beginning to shine through. This process can be extremely traumatic for many men, since it will not only affect your physical appearance, but will serve as a continuous reminder that the aging process is underway as well. If your head of hair is not as thick as it used to be, there are some styling techniques and styling products that you can use to keep your crown looking its best at any age.

Do’s

Thinning hair does not have to send you reaching for the razor, although some men find at a certain point that shaving their heads does seem to take some of the pressure off. If you are not ready to go completely sans hair, you can opt instead for some styling products and techniques that will make the most of your current do. First, avoid styling gels that will only serve to matte hair together and accentuate baldness. Opt instead for texturizing lotions and creams that will add fullness and volume to your style. Another good choice in styling products is a leave-in conditioner that can make your hair fuller and more textured.

Volume and texture are most definitely the buzzwords of choice when it comes to styling a head of hair that is thinner than it used to be. Blow drying can help you to achieve this effect, but if you are not the blow dry type, a natural look can be achieved effectively as long as you keep your hair on the shorter side. There are few looks sexier to women than the one that says, “ Wash and wear, baby.” Conditioner will keep this look shiny and full, especially the leave-in kind.

Don’ts

Okay, here’s where the really important advice comes in, so heed it well. Do not, we repeat, do not try the comb over technique to hide that bald spot. You know what we are talking about. You make the deep part (which becomes deeper and deeper as the hair becomes thinner and thinner), and comb long strands over the area of your head that is not currently growing any hair. This look has been the source of numerous jokes over the years, primarily because it rarely achieves the look that you are hoping for. The strands are rarely sufficient to cover the area that you want to cover, and the look actually draws attention to the exact spot that you are trying to hide. Go for the shorter style with lots of volume, and you will achieve a look that is masculine and important, rather than ridiculous and comical.

Thinning hair is an unfortunate part of aging for many men, but it doesn’t have to mean the end of an attractive, virile way of life. In fact, many women find bald men sexy – consider
