More and more men have recently discovered the benefits of a facelift. A facelift not only can enhance his personal life, it can also be beneficial in the business world. It can erase years off of their appearance and correct any imperfect concerns he may have. Also because a man’s skin is thicker than a woman’s he more than likely won’t need a second facelift and while this type of surgery is very similar to a woman’s, there are a few considerations men should be aware of.

Unlike women, most men cannot hide scars from a facelift procedure since most incisions are made near the hairline and men tend to wear their hair shorter than women. Because of this, the incisions made on men are generally placed inside the ear, near the natural crease of the sideburn, under the chin or further back into the lower scalp under the hair. Because of this, some men may have to change their hairstyle by growing sideburns to hide the incision. Also, if he had hair growing where the skin was pulled back, the hair may not grow there again. He will also need to get used to shaving a little differently if a safety razor is used for shaving rather than an electric razor.

There are also more blood vessels on men’s faces meaning, they are a higher risk for clotting since clots may not show up as quickly. If it does show, surgery may be needed to remove the clot.

As with any surgery there are some risks. Scars that are visible, nerve damage, an allergic reaction to the anesthesia and numbness to the face are rare, but possible. Another possibility is some skin may die. This usually only happens if you smoke or you have had severe sun damage. To avoid these risks, aftercare instructions should be followed very carefully and a good sunscreen never hurts either. You will need to avoid the gym, smoking, some medications and sex for at least a week or two to minimize risk of splitting the stitches and causing damage to your new face. Expect to take a week or two off from work as well.

Choosing a doctor who will perform the surgery is as important as the surgery itself. You certainly do not want to put your life into the hands of someone who has no idea what they are doing. Do your research and ask around. Talk to women or men that you know who’ve had plastic surgery. Ask questions! Just because your local phonebook says a certain doctor specializes in plastic surgery does not mean he’s creditable.

Finally, keep in mind that a facelift does not offer lifetime results. As you age, so does your skin. A facelift can only temporarily stop the hands of time.
