Study finds Breast feeding does not lead to sagging breasts PDF Print E-mail

It is usually believed that breast feeding causes sagging breasts. But this misconception has been shattered by a study conducted by Brian Rinker, MD, ASPS Member Surgeon. According to the study, breast feeding has no effect on a woman's figure. This study was presented at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) Plastic Surgery 2007 conference in Baltimore.

Study Highlights
a. Researchers studied 93 women who had cosmetic breast surgery.
b. All the women were pregnant one or more times before going in for cosmetic breast surgery.
c. 58 per cent of the participants' breastfed one or more of their children for 2 to 25 months.
d. 55 per cent reported a change in the shape of their breasts after pregnancy.
e. It was concluded that, more than the number of children breastfed, the duration of breastfeeding or the amount of weight gain during pregnancy it was the body mass index (BMI), the number of pregnancies, a larger pre-pregnancy bra size, smoking and age that caused sagging of breasts.
