Breast Reduction benefits women of small frames

A new study proves that breast reduction procedures benefit small-framed women. They show a significant improvement in health and quality of life, says a study conducted by New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and the New York University School of Medicine. So far, insurance companies do not reimburse breast reduction surgeries. But with this new finding, they might be willing to reconsider.

Highlights of the study
a. This study was conducted on 59 patients with pain associated with uncomfortably large breasts.
b. None of the participants had ever undergone any breast augmentation procedures.
c. On an average, the mammoplasties involved the surgical removal of 415 grams of breast tissue per breast.
d. 17 women had less than 750 grams of breast tissue removed.
e. Their improvement was reviewed after one year and 3 months.
f. They were asked to rate their pain on a score of 1 to 5.
g. The scores fell drastically after the reduction mammoplasties and women had reduced lower-back pain, neck pain, headache and bra-strap "grooving."
h. This study found that breast reductions of less than 500 grams per breast eased back, neck and shoulder pain.
i. It improved quality of life.
j. Small-framed women were able to comfortably exercise, play sports and choose from a wider variety of clothing following this procedure.
