Gynecomastia or man boobs is a condition where men complain of enlarged breasts, has become a common problem. In fact, this condition has become so prevalent that there are compression garments, which reduce the visibility of enlarged male breasts are being sold in the market now. Man boobs condition usually occurs during one's adolescence and at times this condition prevails even during adulthood. Physicians are of the view that, in this case, it is advisable to resort to surgical procedures. With an emphasis on the perfect body in today's world, men with this condition are often ridiculed by society which in turn affects their esteem and confidence. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, a majority of adolescent boys are suffering from this condition.

Causes of Gynecomastia
a. It is often associated with hormonal fluctuations during puberty.
b. Obesity could be another reason for this condition.
c. Use of steroids could also cause this condition.
d. Decreased testosterone production, kidney failure, testicular tumors and liver diseases are some other health disorders that can cause gynecomastia.

Remedies
a. Hormone treatments like testosterone patches or Tamoxifen, an estrogen-inhibiting drug can be used for the treatment of gynecomastia.
b. Cosmetic surgery can correct this condition depending on the size and composition of the breast.
c. Liposuction can be used as an option to remove fatty deposits.
d. If the breasts are enlarged with fat as well as extra glandular tissue,it should be surgically removed.
e. In severe cases, fat, glandular tissue and excess skin is removed surgically and the nipple is repositioned. But this procedure carries with it the risk of scarring.

Cost of surgical procedures
Between $4,000 to $10,000, depending on the complexity of the procedure.
