Consumers Making More Informed Decisions about Plastic Surgery PDF Print E-mail
When it comes to plastic surgery, prospective patients are becoming more informed about their choices. Stories of botched surgical procedures have highlighted the importance of getting relevant information about a surgeon before making a decision. A study by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) shows that 80 percent of Americans choose skilled, certified plastic surgeons over general practitioners for facial procedures.
The study also revealed that there was a 27 percent increase in surgical and non-surgical procedures since 2000 among men and women. Twenty-six percent of respondents revealed that they would get an eye lift, while 21 percent opted for neck surgery, and 16 percent wanted hair transplants. The remaining procedures were nose jobs at 14 percent, facelifts at 14 percent and chin augmentation and lip enhancement with seven and three percent respectively.
