Major deals that change the face of the cosmetic industry are nothing new. After much conjecture, it was recently announced that German company, BASF has made an offer to buy all remaining shares in Ciba. The offer has met with the approval of Ciba’s board of directors, and shareholders have been advised to agree to it.

BASF chairman, Jürgen Hambrecht was quoted online stating, "With the acquisition of Ciba, we are strengthening our portfolio and expanding our leading position in specialty chemicals with products and services for a variety of customer industries." In keeping with its commitment to Ciba, BASF also plans to set up an operating entity with worldwide functions in Basel.

 

BASF is a multi-national company, which manufactures chemicals. Ciba, based in Basel, Switzerland, creates specialty chemicals. Their products have been used in a many areas including personal care & cosmetics, and in agriculture.
