Just as your skincare routine changes from season to season, so does your makeup. What better way to prepare for the warmer weather than by sporting a sun kissed, fresh-faced and youthful complexion? If you haven’t started celebrating the summer with your favorite makeup items, now is the time to wake up and have fun in the sun - and look great while doing it!
The most important makeup item to have in your collection this summer is sunscreen. This may not have been your first guess but when it comes to the sun and its harmful UV rays, no complexion is safe without sunscreen. Lucky for you, sunscreens have come a long way in the past few years and now include formulas that are lightweight and don’t have a nauseating smell. If the thought of using actual sunscreen on your face isn’t too appealing, there are other options you can turn to. More and more makeup items now contain SPF in their formulas. For example, many foundations and powders now contain an SPF of at least 15 and higher. Now you can apply your makeup as normal and stay protected without adding any extra steps or products into your makeup routine. Tinted moisturizers also sport SPF if you’re not a fan of wearing foundation. Before showcasing your beautiful face in the sun, make sure it is properly protected from sun damage! Want to create a great shine to your skin that has nothing to do with oily and clogged pores? Then you can turn to a highlighting sheen face product. This makeup item is ideal for creating dewy and sexy complexions without appearing frosted. Additionally, applying highlighting sheen to your face before powder will help it stay in place. Use a good makeup brush to lightly dust highlighting sheen to the tip of your nose, cheek bones, above the eyebrows and above the bow of the lips.
Bronzer and self-tanning products go hand-in-hand with the summer months. Whether you’re a porcelain doll trying to get a little color or a naturally tan honey who wants a bronze shimmer, these two products are your answer. Find a good bronzer that complements your natural skin tone and dust it along your temples, under your chin, under the cheek bones, your neck, behind the ears, nose, and any other areas where the sun would naturally hit your face. Be careful in choosing your self-tanner. You’ll want a product that doesn’t give off the horrid, orange hue or look completely fake. Try one that builds color gradually that way you aren’t stuck with a shade that doesn’t look right on you. For your actual makeup (lipstick, eyeliner, eye shadow, etc.), summer is all about being more natural so you can play down your makeup palette. Stick to clear glosses, pinks and corals for lip color, and light coats of mascara. You can skip the eye liner if you don’t want to appear overly dramatic. Depending on your skin tone and eye color, you can choose a great shade of eye shadow to accentuate your peepers or to complement your outfit.
