Since the sale of beauty products online began, figures have shown continued growth. The latest figures suggest that online beauty retailers are seeing increased revenue at the expense of traditional stores. According to reports online, Asos, an online beauty store has seen its sales double in a six month period. This exceeds the growth of 80% it experienced in 2007.
At the other end of the spectrum, UK retailer Marks & Spencer’s latest figures have been below par, showing an overall 6.1% decline. While this does not paint a picture of the overall market trends, it could be a worrying sign for some stores.
Nick Robertson, chief executive of Asos, said that while the group was guarded about full year figures, it remained optimistic about future prospects. Currently Asos has 1.83 million users and 890,000 active buyers. Asos intends to increase the range of products it carries as part of its future plans.
