Cosmetic line arrives with a bang in Pine Island PDF Print E-mail

The News-Press, FL

Strawberries and dream waft off the shelf. The chocolate mallow looks good enough to eat.

The treats that entice the eye and much as the olfactory senses adorn a display that takes up much of the back wall at Center of Attention Day Spa on Pine Island. The new line of Bomb Cosmetics serves as eye candy but the sweet scents are for use in the bath, not the kitchen.

Center of Attention recently inked a deal with the British company to sell its products in the spa. Center of Attention owners Bob and Tonya Elder also will serve as the sole distributors of the product in the United States. Tonya Elder first saw the product at a trade show in June.

• All of the Bomb Cosmetics products are handmade and have become increasingly popular throughout Europe.
"It was a gut feel," she said of her decision to bring the line to Florida. "The presentation and just seeing it and knowing what's it's about, made me want to have it."

The first shipment arrived in September and since then customers have tried everything from the bath bombs to the old-fashioned tonic.

"The little round ones are my favorite," customer Donna Honc said.

Honc professed to trying a number of the bath bombs, from the small round variety rolled in herbs and flowers, to the larger bombs that look and smell like real cupcakes.

"It has eye appeal," Honc said. "As a woman you want to try something that makes you look youthful."

Bomb Cosmetics have been available in Great Britain for the past 10 years and has made its way to 40 countries around the world. The company adheres to minimal impact policies and uses recycled paper and glass in its containers. The bath products are made entirely by hand with all natural garnishes, including flower petals, coffee beans and herbs.

Tonya Elder said that spa employees did not have to work to sell the new products.

"A lot of people were intrigued to try something new," she said.

Center of Attention general sales manager Bevin Ford admitted to using the bath bombs more than once a week. She wants customers to hop in a bath as often as she does.

"We're dedicated to the art of bathing," she said.

Center of Attention owner Bob Elder said that even men can find a scent that's not too feminine.

"I use it," he said.

Elder pointed out that the cost of relaxation is cheaper than prices for many vices, such as cigarettes or alcohol.

"For $5 you can take a bath and you won't have the guilt in the morning," he said.
