All of the major cosmetic lines seem to be sporting their own metallic hues in makeup, and new metal colors are scheduled to be released this fall. While you may think that these color palettes look gorgeous hanging on the racks, it can be more than a little intimidating to figure out how to get them to look great on your face. All it takes is a little know-how and a bit of practice to wear those glam shades beautifully.
Where and How to Apply Metallic Makeup This system can also be used when it comes to dressing up your eyes with shimmer. If you opt to sweep a metallic shade across your lid for a dramatic effect, it is best to ground your shadow with a black eyeliner and mascara. You can also use a touch of metallic makeup to add a hint of glimmer, like a bit of copper in your lid crease to dazzle up your neutral peach shadow. Another great technique is to use eyeliner with a metallic tint to it to glam up a matte blue, green or grey shadow palette. When using shimmer eyeliner, your best effect will come by lining your upper lid, although the lower lid can get in on the action as well. You can also select from shadows that contain just a hint of the metallic shine, or a totally shimmering choice that is all about the gold or silver sheen that you are wanting to flaunt.
Metallic makeup tends to work best for evening wear, when shine and sparkle are the buzzwords of style. Younger faces are usually able to get away with a dramatic splash of a metallic color, while more mature women might prefer to go with the accent approach using just a bit of shadow or eyeliner to highlight. Another way to add the sparkle is to brush a bit of metallic powder across the top of the shoulder or collarbone. This is a great addition to a strapless or sleeveless evening gown or cocktail dress that will add a hint of shimmer when the light catches just right. Glam looks are all about sparkle, and the metallic makeups today are guaranteed to deliver. Shine on.
