Covering up dark under eye circles, old acne or facial scars or skin discoloration is a major concern for both men and women. In the past, cosmetic cover-ups were too pink, too noticeable or too drying but nowadays formulas and products are more advanced and provide natural looking coverage. Modern products also narrow in and help treat problem areas and there are various products to choose from. But first, always start with cleansed and moisturized skin before applying any concealing products. Some common skin flaws and ways to treat and conceal include:
2. Old scars – apply concealer using a concealer brush, lightly blend by tapping with ring finger. Along with Benefit and Bobbi Brown concealers, try Dermablend Cosmetics for extra-strength coverage. According to the site, their products are fragrance free and suitable for sensitive skin. Recommended by the site is the Quick-Fix Concealer for dark eye circles and the Compact Cover Crème for scars, burns, port wine birthmarks and vitiligo. 3. Redness and discoloration – to help reduce redness try Physician’s Formula Star Perfection Translucent Face Powder ($11) or Benefit Bluff Dust ($22), a yellow-colored loose powder that is applied over makeup and helps illuminate skin tone. For on-the-go touch-ups, try Benefit You’re Bluffing Stick ($18). 4. Acne – use a concealer containing salicylic acid to also help reduce redness and blotches. Try Maybelline Pure Concealer Stick with 2% salicylic acid ($7) or Benefit galactic shield! Pencil ($18). 5. Shiny T-zone and overall oiliness – before applying foundation or concealer, use a moistened makeup sponge to apply a thin layer of primer to prevent foundation from flaking, sliding or caking. Try Sephora Professional Perfection Makeup Base ($12).
