Makeup Tips for Mature SkinBy the time most women are in their 30’s they have experimented with different makeup looks and colors and have settled in with a familiar makeup routine. As women mature, their makeup needs change. Instead of piling on black eyeliner, false eyelashes or orange-red lipstick, mature women need to focus on a clean, natural application of foundation and powder and makeup colors to enhance their unique looks while avoid drawing attention to changes in skin and features. Some tips include:

Face

·         Before applying foundation, apply a light diffusing primer with a damp wedge sponge.

·         Since mature skin tends to be drier, choose a mousse or cream foundation, which will hydrate skin and avoid settling in fine lines. Choose a foundation with yellow undertones, which offers the most natural coverage. Pink-based foundations tend to look artificial.

·        Choose a concealer with yellow undertones and light diffusing particles for under the eyes. Use a separate, slightly thicker concealer with a yellow undertone to conceal any age or sunspots and neutralize any red, splotchy areas.

·        Finish with a light dusting of moisturizing pressed powder compact with a powder puff. If you have combination skin, use a loose powder with a large facial brush.

Eyebrows

·        Be careful when using eyeliner pencils! To avoid the surprised and artificial look, choose a pencil in light brown (for blondes and redheads) or medium to dark brown (for brunettes) with an ultra fine tip and apply with light feather strokes from the inner corner of the eyes to the outer edges. This technique is best for those with sparse eyebrows. For brows that are fuller, use powder eyeliner. Begin by applying in the middle of the brows and work toward the outer edges. Use any leftover color for the inner eyebrows (these should have the least bit of color).

Eyes

·        Before applying eye shadow, use a light diffusing eyelid primer.

·        Choose cream or powder shadows in soft browns, taupes, pinks, peaches and plums. Look for matte formulas and avoid  shimmer shadows.

·        Choose a powder-infused eyeliner pencil in a soft brown, khaki, plum, denim or black.

·        Choose brown, brownish-black or soft black defining mascara with a double-tapered brush to enhance any sparse lashes.

Cheeks

·        Using a blush brush, sweep a moisturizing powder blush on the apples toward the hairline in a soft pink or peach color.

Lips

·         Use a Vitamin E stick or lip primer before applying color.

·         Choose cream and moisturizing lipsticks and avoid matte textures, which can make lips look drier. Lip-glosses are also ideal.

·         Skip lip liner unless for special occasions.

·         Choose natural colors such as soft pinks, peaches, apricots and nudes. Avoid very dark reds, burgundies and plums.
