The eyes have it – when it comes to the focal point of our faces, that is! If you want a look that will get you plenty of positive attention, the place to start is with your eye makeup. Beautiful eyes, whether they are smoky, sparkly or full of glam will always be the centerpiece of your face. If you want to do your eyes the justice that they deserve, there are some simple tips that you can follow to make your eyes look their best.
Start with a Good Foundation Before you apply a smidgeon of makeup, make sure your eyes are looking and feeling their best with a cooling treatment. If your eyes tend to get bloodshot from too little sleep, or too much time gazing at the computer screen, start with eye drops that are designed to minimize the redness. Next, give your eyes a break by lying down for a few minutes of rest before beginning the glam process. You can use cotton balls soaked in cool water, fresh slices of cucumber or a lavender mask over your eyes to reduce puffiness. Next, apply moisturizer to your lids that will prevent the makeup from caking in the crease after a period of time. You can also add a dab of foundation to your lid and brow area to keep the makeup intact longer as well. The best shadow combination will consist of two or three shades that you will blend together.
Start with the lightest shade, and cover the entire lid and brow area. Don’t be shy about how much you use – the blending process will work better if you have an ample amount of the base color to work with. You can then add your other shades to the base, using the medium color over the lid and the darkest color in the crease. An eye liner is another good addition to make your eyes stand out. Choose a product that you can use easily, whether it is a liquid liner, pencil or a dab of the shadow applied with a moistened brush. Unless your eyes are very large, only use liner on the lower lid from the center of the eye to the outer corner. The top lid can be lined from corner to corner. For additional brightening effect, add a touch of highlighter to the inner corner of your eye in a “v” shape.
Dressing up the Lashes Once your eye shadow is applied evenly and to your liking, you can blend the entire area, using a blending brush and stroking from the eye area toward the temple. At this point, it is time to apply mascara to help your lashes stand out from all of that amazing color. Keep in mind that if you are blonde or fair, your mascara should stay in the brown hues. Darker complexions can get away with black mascara. For maximum drama, use an eyelash curler before getting out the mascara wand.
Making the most of your eyes will add drama, glamour or freshness to your face, depending on the style of makeup that you choose. Give your eyes the attention they deserve, and they will always be ready to work for you.
