Sometimes hair has a mind of its own, and what it wants to do is much different from what you want it to do. If you are frustrated because your hair has its own strong will, take heart! With a few tricks up your sleeve, you can tame the most unruliest locks to ensure that you are leaving home every morning with your best head forward. All it takes is a bit of style savvy to show those stubborn tresses who’s in control.
Calming Down the Curls It is not uncommon for unruly hair to also be loaded with natural curls. For those straight-haired beauties among us, it is safe to say that the majority of us envy those wavy locks. However, if you are battling that curly top every morning, you are painfully aware of the challenges that come with curls. To keep them under control, it is best to avoid washing your hair every day. When you do shampoo, follow up with a conditioner that contains a detangler to help you move a comb through your mane more efficiently. When you are shopping for a styling gel, look for one that includes guar gum as one of its ingredients, since this substance is quite effective at controlling hair and diminishing frizzies. Keep in mind that a blow dryer is not a friend of curly hair, so avoid it when possible and allow your locks to air dry instead.
TLC for Dry Tresses It has become common knowledge today that the daily use of a hair dryer can result in more frequent bad hair days. This is because the hot air from the dryer can actually burn the hair, leaving strands stuck together and ends broken. This does not make for a pretty head of hair, but there are some things that you can do to avoid this effect. The main one is to avoid the blow dryer as often as possible, in favor of letting your hair air dry. One method is to put your hair up in a loose bun while it is still wet, and embellish with a funky hair accessory like a barrette or hair stick. When you simply must put on the heat, apply a conditioner first that is designed to protect hair from the blow dry experience. Keep your dryer on the lowest setting possible and always dry your hair from the underside out.
Shampooing Wisely We have already mentioned that daily shampooing can lead to unruly hair, so try to switch your shampoo schedule to every other day whenever possible. Never shampoo from the roots down if you can help it. Instead, begin sudsing at the base of the neck and work up. Make sure that the shampoo and other products that you opt to use are worked through the hair thoroughly and completely rinsed out. When your hair is wet, always comb through it first, since putting a brush to wet hair will almost guarantee broken ends. If possible, comb through a leave-in conditioner while you are performing that first comb through.
If these tricks do not help to keep your unruly locks under control for styling, there is always a ponytail holder or barrette to keep wild tresses restrained. Keep in mind that you don’t have to spend a ton of time on styling to make your hair look great. Unruly hair has finally met its match. Tame away.
