Learn to Love your GreyGrey hair is very often a fact of life at some point for many of us, and for some it comes much more quickly than for others. While the majority of women may prefer to hide those grey roots under an array of coloring treatments, some enjoy the natural look, and decide to make the most of the grey hair that they’ve been given. If you are one who has decided to brave the grey, there are some things that you should know about how to keep your hair in its healthiest condition to ensure that it looks its best.

Shampooing and Conditioning

When it comes to keeping grey hair clean, it is usually best to select products that are specifically designed for this hair color and type. This is because hair that has lost its pigmentation will generally dry out and become damaged more easily than other hair. Products designed for grey hair will go far in keeping the texture soft and manageable. It is also a good idea to use a clarifying shampoo on your hair every week or so to cleanse your tresses of buildup hat is caused by the use of shampoos, conditioners and styling products. Conditioners are also an important part of grey hair care, and a deep conditioning should be done every week or two as well. For maximum moisturizing, try a hot oil treatment. Avoid shampoos that come in bright colors, since these might actually stain your hair.

Avoid the Yellow

One of the risks that you run with going grey is a yellowish tint to your tresses that can be the result of environmental factors like pollution or even cigarette smoke. While your original hair color might have been able to successfully mask this yellowing, grey hair will not be so fortunate. One of the steps that you can take to avoid this yellowing is to use a clarifying shampoo that will deep clean your hair regularly. There are also products available that are specifically designed to work with grey hair in keeping the color natural and beautiful, like highlighting kits. For additional help in keeping your grey tresses, talk to your stylist about your specific needs.

Makeup Colors that Work Well with Grey Hair

Since grey hair has a tendency to make the skin look dull, use moisturizing foundations that will give you a dewy look and a natural glow. It is best to avoid dark blue, grey and silver shadows that will give grey hair an icy look. Instead, opt for contrasting colors that will brighten your hair and complexion, like rose, pink and lavender. Use pink or coral shades on cheeks and keep lips moist with creamy lipsticks or glosses that will complement your blush shades.

Grey hair doesn’t have to simply broadcast the aging process to the world. With the proper care, your grey hair can be a beautiful asset to give you class and sophistication. Love your grey.
