Liposuction: Zap That Excess Fat Away PDF Print E-mail
Liposuction is a type of cosmetic surgery that removes fatty deposits under the skin. This type of procedure can be minimal or invasive depending on the amount of subcutaneous fat on your body.

Liposuction can be performed on a variety of areas of your body and it can be combined with an abdominoplasty to remove excess amounts of skin from your body. However, liposuction is not a cure all for overweight individuals. It is ideal that an individual commits himself to a lifestyle change of his eating habits before the surgery.

The fact is Americans are overweight. Each year more and more people across the country are being diagnosed with being overweight and obese. Excess amounts of body fat can lead to chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure), elevated triglycerides, and heart disease.

The reduction of excess body fat (including through liposuction) can help fight or even prevent these diseases from developing. However, as mentioned, the key to fighting these conditions is not random removal of fat deposits, but positive lifestyle changes.

The best two things individuals can do to enhance their liposuction experience is diet and exercise. Most American's diets are rich in saturated fats and carbohydrates. These two food products are found excessively in food prepared at restaurants (even upscale places).

There are a number of websites that person can join for free that will help calculate daily calorie consumption. These programs have foods preprogrammed that show not only the fat and calories but the vitamins and minerals in food. They list common fast food and restaurant dishes.

These websites also calculate your daily caloric intake need, which is essential to planning your lifestyle change. Research has shown that the most successful diet changes include a reduction in calories, not just fat. Actually, some fats are important to the balance of our bodies. Fats are essential for hormones that regulate many components in our body. However, diets high in saturated fats (as compared to polysaturated or monosaturated fats) can lead to bad health effects.

The second thing a person can do to enhance their treatment is get off the couch or away from the computer. Exercising more increases the need for calories. This does two things. First, if allows you to eat more without gaining weight. Second, if you change your diet while exercising, you'll start to lose weight. You need to burn roughly 3500 calories to lose a pound. This can safely be done over a week.

Dieting and exercise will help your liposuction treatment in two ways. First, it will enhance your body so that it can recover quicker from the procedure. It can also help your body respond better to the medications they will use for your treatment.

Secondly, it will help you maintain your new figure. Liposuction is not terribly expensive, but it is not cheap either. By maintaining your body weight or, hopefully, continuing to reduce it, will help your stay better longer. Adverse effects of not maintaining your weight after liposuction can produce unsightly fat deposits.

So, when you decide to do liposuction, make it part of plan for a whole new you. Use liposuction as a reward for achieving and maintaining a health new lifestyle.
