Face and Neck Lift (Rhytidectomy)
It?s an unfortunate fact of life that age, the sun and heredity all seem to impact the face first. If you want to refresh your appearance?reducing and perhaps even eliminating wrinkles in your face and neck?this procedure is one you should check. A facelift will effectively tighten your skin making it look younger and firmer. One thing to remember though; while it may be called a facelift, this procedure is actually designed for your neck and the lower half of your face only; if you want changes to your forehead area, you will need a browlift or botox injections.

How it?s done
There are several variations on this classic surgery, but basically, your surgeon will make an incision on the temple by the ear, and then continue on around the back of the ear and into the scalp. Where necessary, excess tissue, skin and fat are removed. A local or general anesthetic may be used.

Recovery
7 to 10 days.

Complications
Bleeding and bruising can be a problem, but major complications are unusual.

Cost
$6,500 to $12,000.
Browlift (Coronal Endoscope)

Aging skin on your face and body sags. This is often noticeable in areas like your forehead where drooping skin brings your brows too close to your eyes. Eliminating this excess skin can make you look younger and more relaxed, and with recent advances in plastic surgery, this means that you will only experience minimal scarring.

How it?s done
Your surgeon will make several incisions along your hairline for the tiny implements required to complete this surgery, and a miniscule camera is used to guide the procedure. Depending on any other work you are having done, either a local or a general anesthetic may be used. Note: Some surgeons still do the traditional browlift which involves an incision usually hidden in the hair.

Recovery
7 to 10 days.

Complications
This is a safe procedure with few major complications.

Cost
$3,000 to $7,000.

Upper and Lower Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Our eyes are usually the first thing that other people notice about us, and, unfortunately, often the first part of our face to show the signs of aging or heredity. Blepharoplasty is designed to remove fatty tissue and tighten sagging skin around the eye. This popular procedure can be performed on your upper eyelids, your lower eyelids, or both at the same time.

How it?s done
On your upper eyelid, your surgeon will make a thin incision which is hidden in the crease: on your lower eyelid, the incision is made just below your lash line. Skin is then separated from the underlying tissue and muscle, and excess fat and skin trimmed or removed.

Recovery
1 week to 10 days. The thin scars become almost invisible after a few months.

Complications
While blepharoplasty is a straightforward procedure, any surgery involving the eye includes some risks: bleeding, swelling, double vision, permanent droopiness of the eyelid and dry eye syndrome.

Cost
Combination: $3,000 to $10,000.

Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

Front and centre, your nose is there for the whole world to see, so not surprisingly, rhinoplasty is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures available today. Size, shape and alignment?whether due to injury or heredity?can be surgically corrected. But appearance is not the only reason you might consider this procedure; a misshapen nose can go hand-in-hand with breathing problems.

How it?s done
Depending on the characteristics of your particular nose, your doctor will choose either the open or closed method of surgery. In the open method, an incision is made across the skin between the nostrils. This allows the surgeon to see the internal structure of your nose. While this may allow the surgeon to operate with greater precision and ease, there will be more swelling and it will take you longer to recover. In the closed method, no external incision is made, so recovery is faster.

Recovery
7 to 10 days; swelling for 2 to 4 weeks.

Complications
Rare and usually related to surgery and anesthetic.

Cost
$4,500 to $5,500.

 Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)

If your ears stick out, you can have them pinned back so they lie closer to your skull. This straightforward surgery has been popular for decades with men, women and children.

How it?s done
Depending on the esthetic result you want, your surgeon will either pin back the existing cartilage with permanent sutures, or remove and trim the excess to form a more attractive shape. Because incisions are made behind your ear, they are not noticeable.

Recovery
2 weeks; no contact sports for 3 months.

Complications
Minimal risks including bleeding, infection and reaction to the anesthetic.

Cost
$3,000 to $3,500.

Chin and Cheek Augmentation

If you want a more attractive contour to your cheeks, and a stronger chin, this procedure will transform your appearance. One big advantage is that there is no visible scarring; another is that this kind of augmentation is relatively simple and can eliminate the need for a facelift. If you?re considering a rhinoplasty, your surgeon may also suggest a chin augmentation to enhance the effect of your new nose.

How it?s done
Your surgeon will make incisions inside your mouth and then insert silicone implants in your chin and/or cheeks

Recovery
1 to 2 weeks.

Complications
With any surgery involving an implant, there can be complications including improper placement or shifting. This would require follow up surgery to reposition your implant.

Cost
Cheeks: $3,500; Chin: $2,500 to $3,000.

Fat Injections

If you are looking gaunt and wrinkled, fat injections are one way to obtain fuller lips and a smoother, healthier-looking face. This procedure can also be used if you want rounder buttocks or plumper hands. Results are not always permanent, and touch ups may be required.

How it?s done
Your doctor will inject fat into the deep layers of tissue in the area you want filled out. The fat used is taken from another part of your body so there?s no chance of allergic reaction.

Recovery
2 weeks.

Complications
This is a low risk procedure, though bruising and infection may occur.

Cost
Lips: $1,000 and up. Face: $2,300 and up.

Botox Injections

Botox has become a very popular way to reduce the appearance of wrinkles on your forehead and neck. If you have a serious problem with underarm or palm perspiration, you might want to investigate Botox too. The way it works is simple: Botox blocks the message from the nerve to the muscle, relaxing it. Because the muscle does not contract, the skin above stays smooth and unwrinkled. And as Botox only affects a small area, most of your face muscles will act normally giving you a natural expression.

How it?s done
Your doctor will give you a topical anesthetic, and the Botox injections are relatively painless. Results can last anywhere from three to six months after the first injection, and although Botox is only a temporary solution, the results do appear to be somewhat cumulative.

Recovery
1 to 2 days.

Complications
This is a very safe procedure though there are some temporary risks. If the needle is not placed properly, you could experience drooping or a frozen appearance.

Cost
$250 to $500.

Permanent Makeup

If you have a very busy schedule or allergies to certain products, permanent makeup on your eyes and lips can be a good option for you. Areas that can be enhanced include your eyebrows, around your eyes on the eyelid and inside the lower lash line; sometimes pigment is used to create eye shadow too. You can also choose to have permanent lip liner applied; this makes lips look more professionally finished, and thin lips slightly fuller.

How it?s done
A trained technician will apply your permanent makeup in a procedure called micro pigment implementation. In effect, it?s similar to doing a tattoo.

Recovery
Eyebrows: immediate; Eyes: 24 to 48 hours; Lips: 3 to 5 days..

Complications
There can be soreness and swelling. If the makeup is not applied properly, it can be very difficult to remove it.

Cost
Eyebrows: $795; Eyes: $695 to $795; Lips: $995.Permanent Makeup
