Maria Taylor Flynn from Dublin, Ireland successfully sued and won €15,000 from Advanced Cosmetic Surgery Ltd and cosmetic surgeon, Hassam Sulaiman. Ms. Flynn claimed her surgery for liposuction was botched leaving her with a ‘bubble’’ on her stomach.

However, Flynn’s triumph may be short-lived as she may have to pay out more than she was awarded in legal fees. This is as a result of a 1991 Courts Act which stipulated that anyone who wins less than €19,046 in a High Court case cannot be awarded more monies than the sum won as legal cost.   Ms. Flynn may therefore find herself owing at least €20,000 in legal costs.
