Cosmetic surgery tourism continues to be a popular worldwide trend despite overall sagging figures it seems. One country that is said to be befitting from this is South Korea. The term ‘Korean Wave’ was coined to describe this sudden popularity of South Korean culture. According to one recent news report, many Asians are travelling to the country in the hopes of looking like Korean celebrities. Published figures state that roughly 10,000 people visited the country for plastic surgery procedures last year alone. Busan Seomyon Street, where 80 clinics are located, has been nicknamed Beauty Town. The boom in visitors from other countries is also fueled by the much cheaper prices for comparable procedures elsewhere. Bloomberg News reported that a $4,600 eyelid surgery in the USA cost just US$1,100 in Korea. The government has partnered with some of the country’s hospitals to promote the cosmetic surgery industry.
