| Woman Sues Over Burn Injuries From Cosmetics Samples |

A West Virginia woman has filed a lawsuit against the Macy’s department store chain and Estee Lauder cosmetics for causing her to suffer facial burns after applying samples of makeup two years ago.
Topping claims she was permanently injured after using MAC brand cosmetics made by Estee Lauder and given to her as free samples at a Macy’s cosmetics counter in the Barboursville Mall on October 1, 2007. She applied the makeup samples on October 31 and suffered chemical burns to her face. She went to a hospital emergency room for treatment, but the burns left her permanently disfigured and facing future medical treatment, her lawsuit states. Financial Damages Sought The burns caused by the makeup samples also caused Topping “great pain and suffering of the mind and body” and forced her to miss work to the point that she was fired, costing her lost wages according to her suit. Topping also claims she also has suffered the loss of companionship with her children as a result of the burns. The damage to her face was so serious that staff at the school her children attended suspected she was a victim of domestic abuse and reported her to the state’s Department of Health and Human Services, the Record reported. According to Topping’s suit, the MAC cosmetics were defectively tested, designed, manufactured, and distributed, resulting in her injuries.
