Lower Your Cholesterol Levels With Fish Oil PDF Print E-mail
Recent studies are showing that when people take fish oil daily, they can lower their cholesterol levels and help promote good heart health. A study in Canada even suggests that it can lower triglyceride levels, particularly in women. Taking these supplements is a good source of omega 3 fatty acids. It is also an excellent way to make sure you are getting these essential oils into your body, especially if you are one who does not care for the taste of fish but want the benefits of adding it to your diet.

There are many other benefits to taking fish oil. Studies are also showing that it can help prevent cancer, improve memory, and help with asthma and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. If you are in the market for fish oil supplementation, the experts state that you should look for a high quality product and steer clear of the cheap, drug store bands. Look for a good grade and therapeutic brand. You want to find the purest form in order to get the most benefits from it.

These supplements are made from cold water ocean fish and below are some things to look for when searching for it in its purest, therapeutic form:

· Look for one that is made from only one species of fish, avoid mixtures of species

· Look for one that has antioxidant ingredients and states that it protects from free radicals

· Has a high content of EPA and DHA (two of the essential omega-3 fatty acids)

· One that is not produced by using excessive heat (heat can change the structure of the oil)

· One that is purified of all toxins and contaminants, including mercury

If you are a heart patient, you should consult with your doctor before taking fish oil. Studies show that it can cause your blood to clot at a much slower rate and as result, prolong bleeding. If you are taking blood thinners and other medications, talk to your doctor before taking it.

More than one half of all Americans are thought to be deficient in fish oil and when tested, almost 20% do not have enough EPA and DHA for it to be detected in their blood. You can easily see that as a nation, most of us are deficient in it. This excellent source of omega 3 can be found in health food stores. Just make sure you find quality brands to lower your cholesterol levels with fish oil.
