The Best Oils for Healthy Skin
When you think about healthy skin, oils may not readily come to mind. For one thing, oil on your complexion can lead to breakouts and blemishes, not to mention oily skin types and acne prone skin tend to want less oil, not more of it. But there are oils out there that are able to benefit the skin instead of cause harm. You may want to take note of which oils can give you the healthy, glowing skin you’ve always wanted.

One of the best oils for skin is jojoba oil. This ingredient has been in use in a number of skincare and beauty products for many, many years. Jojoba oil is a favorite when it comes to skincare because it is natural and contains healing properties. The main feature that makes jojoba oil so unique is its ability to mimic sebum (oil) found in our skin. The upside to this feature is that for skin that is excessively dry, lacks proper sebum production levels, or suffers from environmental pollutants or other factors, jojoba oil can be used to replenish the skin’s sebum. This ingredient also works as a potent moisturize, keeping the skin not only hydrated by being able to repair itself from the inside out. Jojoba oil has been known to work wonders on eliminating premature wrinkles (and even existing wrinkles), healing dry skin types, and has been known to effectively treat acne and oily skin. When it comes to acne and oily skin, jojoba has the power to break up existing sebum, unclogging pores, and acting as a natural cleanser to keep blemishes and breakouts at bay.

Olive oil is another naturally occurring ingredient that has been known for its skincare benefits for hundreds, to thousands of years. This type of oil is ideal for use on the skin because it contains loads of antioxidants and also has the ability to help damaged skin repair itself. Those with sun damaged skin can definitely benefit from applying olive oil. Additionally, olive oil is also strong enough to fight free radical damage (due to its high levels of polyphenols), while providing potent moisturizing properties. When using olive oil for your skincare needs, it is best to choose extra virgin olive oil instead of olive oil that is considered “pure” or “light.” These types of olive oil products have been chemically processed, while extra virgin olive oil gives your skin the most natural benefits. Use olive oil in a homemade face mask, mixed with avocado or facial mud clay for a soft and hydrated complexion.

Another type of oil that does wonders for the skin is coconut oil. In addition to providing natural moisturizing properties, coconut oil is also able to condition the skin to ward off sun damage, signs of aging, liver spots, and blemishes. Coconut oil is so potent that it can actually penetrate through to the deeper layers of skin, where its healing properties can reduce skin inflammation and also speed up wound healing.
